Mami Kato

Mami Kato maintains a litigation-focused practice in the area of labor and employment law as counsel for her firm's metro Detroit office. Before joining the firm, she was an attorney with Sachs Waldman, PC, where she successfully defended federal hybrid §301 actions jointly brought against an employer and a labor organization as well as other employment discrimination actions filed against labor organizations. Ms. Kato has successfully represented clients in state and federal courts, both at trial and appellate levels, as well as before various administrative agencies, including the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Labor Relations Board, the U.S. Department of Labor, the Michigan Employment Relations Commission, and the Michigan Civil Rights Commission. At Wayne State University Law School, she received the Bernard Gottfried Memorial Scholarship in Labor Law, competed in the Wagner Labor and Employment Moot Court Competition and the National Student Trial Advocacy Competition, and served as the article editor for the "Journal of Law in Society." Before her legal career, Ms. Kato served as the orchestra operations manager for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for over 10 years, where she was responsible for various labor law issues as they relate to musicians and stagehands and for ensuring compliance with various collective bargaining agreements.
