Deanna L. Kelley has been a criminal litigator for over 30 years. Ms. Kelley has spent the last 21 years focusing solely on criminal defense for both adults and juveniles, handling complex and high-profile cases involving murder, robbery, sex, computers, fraud, drugs, assault, stalking, and more. For the first 10 years of her career, she was an assistant prosecutor for Oakland County where she was specially assigned to handle high-profile sex crimes against children. Ms. Kelley has represented other attorneys and many police officers, notably obtaining a hung jury and subsequent nolle pros for a police officer falsely accused of a careless shooting in 2023. Also in 2023, she obtained outright dismissals in more than 20 felony cases, obtained multiple not guilty verdicts, and prevented felony charges in numerous cases including that of a parent who was facing termination of parental rights and criminal prosecution for false allegations of inflicting nonaccidental trauma. Ms. Kelley is currently on the faculty of the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission, where she teaches trial skills workshops with the goal of improving legal representation for indigent criminal defendants, and has trained police officers at the Oakland Community College Police Academy. She also volunteers at a legal clinic doing pro bono representation of indigent clients seeking expungements. Ms. Kelley is a fellow of the Oakland County Bar Association and a member of the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. In addition to her practice in Michigan, she has practiced in Connecticut, Kentucky, and Colorado. Ms. Kelley has been consistently recognized as a Michigan Super Lawyer, honored by "Hour Magazine" as one of the Top Women Attorneys in Michigan, and listed by "DBusiness" magazine as a Top Lawyer, specifically for her skills representing those charged with white-collar crimes.
