Mary Massaron

Bloomfield Hills, Michigan


Mary Massaron has concentrated her practice on appellate law and advocacy for decades and has handled hundreds of appeals in state and federal appellate courts. Her skill as an appellate lawyer has been nationally recognized. Ms. Massaron is a fellow in the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and a member of the American Law Institute and has served as chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Council of Appellate Lawyers, a division of the Appellate Judges Conference, the ABA TIPS Appellate Advocacy Committee, and the Appellate Practice Section of the State Bar of Michigan. As a past president of DRI-The Voice of the Defense Bar and a past president of the Lawyers for Civil Justice (LCJ), she is well versed in the perspectives of businesses and insurers regarding appellate litigation, class actions, and other complex disputes. Ms. Massaron currently chairs the LCJ Class Action, Mass Torts, and MDL Committee. A regular before the Michigan Supreme Court, where she served as law clerk to Justice Patricia J. Boyle, she chairs the Advocates Guild of the Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society and is immediate past chair of the Michigan Appellate Bench Bar Conference Foundation. Ms. Massaron has handled significant appeals in state and federal appellate courts for governmental and private clients, including representing property owners to overturn decades-old precedent involving condemnation, establishing the retroactivity of automotive dealer statute amendments before the Michigan Supreme Court, and overturning multimillion dollar judgments on appeal.
