Howard A. Lax practices in the areas of real estate, banking and finance law, and title insurance defense. Of counsel to the firm, he specializes in financial institutions, consumer compliance and regulatory affairs, and real property law. Mr. Lax spent more than a decade with the Legal Services Division of NBD Bank and several years in private practice serving a variety of financial institutions. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and its Business Law Section and Real Property Law Section, where he is a member of the council and serves on several committees. In addition to contributing legal resources for the Real Property Law Section's website, Mr. Lax has written many articles and participated in numerous seminars, including those sponsored by ICLE and the State Bar of Michigan. He has also given many presentations to compliance officers, lenders, auditors, and loan managers regarding regulatory and real estate issues and concerns and documentation of consumer loans. Mr. Lax also writes and publishes "The Mortgage News," a mortgage banking compliance newsletter, and writes columns for "RESPA News" and other October Research publications.
