John R. Runyan

Detroit, Michigan

John R. Runyan practices labor and employment law, representing employees and labor organizations. He serves as the firm's expert on matters relating to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Equal Pay Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Mr. Runyan has also served as an arbitrator, mediator, and facilitator in a variety of employment disputes. He has been a member of the adjunct faculty at Wayne State University Law School for more than 35 years, teaching a class in employment discrimination. Mr. Runyan has served as president of the Detroit Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, as president of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, and on the Council of the State Bar of Michigan Labor and Employment Law Section, receiving its Distinguished Service Award in 2016. He is also the most recent recipient of the Julian Abele Cook, Jr.-Bernard A. Friedman FBA Civility Award. A fellow and officer of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, he has been listed in every edition of "The Best Lawyers in America" since 1989.
