John R. Marquis (deceased)

John R. Marquis practiced in the areas of business, taxation, and health law. In addition to practicing law, Mr. Marquis spent 16 years as an adjunct professor at one of his alma maters, Grand Valley State University. After he completed Grand Valley's master of science in taxation program in 1984, he began teaching in the program and continued teaching until 2001, when he became an adjunct professor of business law at Hope College, where he taught from 2002 to 2004. He was a member of the Business Law and Taxation Sections of both the State Bar of Michigan and the American Bar Association and was a member and former president of the Ottawa County Bar Association. Mr. Marquis was a recognized national authority on "concierge medicine" and spoke before numerous groups around the country on the subject. Listed in "The Best Lawyers in America," Mr. Marquis was a frequent speaker for ICLE, where he has taught a number of business and tax courses. Active in civic affairs, he served as the president of the Community Foundation of the Holland Zeeland Area. Mr. Marquis died February 25, 2024.
