Michael D. Shelton

Michael D. Shelton is a shareholder with the firm, where he practices estate planning, wealth and tax planning, probate and trust administration, business law, and elder law. Mr. Shelton works with families and business owners to meet their changing goals and legal needs as their circumstances change. He also advises families and works with their advisors to address the complicated issues that can arise when dealing with retirement accounts. Mr. Shelton has a broad range of experience in assisting account owners and beneficiaries with retirement account matters such as preparing see-through trusts, managing required distributions, disclaimers, charitable giving, and planning for disabled or minor beneficiaries. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan’s Probate and Estate Planning Section and the Washtenaw County Estate Planning Council. Mr. Shelton previously worked for several years in Grand Rapids in the estate planning practice group at Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge. Before law school, he served many years in the U.S. Army and the Michigan National Guard.
