Hon. Stephen L. Borrello

Hon. Stephen L. Borrello was appointed by Governor Jennifer Granholm to the Court of Appeals in 2003, elected in 2004, and reelected in 2006. Prior to that, he was an attorney and partner with the law firm Gilbert, Smith, and Borrello, PC, in Saginaw, Michigan. As a private practitioner Judge Borrello served as general counsel to the Michigan State Building and Construction Trades Council, Michigan Laborers' District Council, and the County of Saginaw. He also served as an assistant prosecuting attorney from 1988 to 1990 in Saginaw County. A graduate of the Detroit College of Law, Judge Borrello is currently an adjunct professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at Saginaw Valley State University, where he teaches courses in criminal procedure and evidence. He has been a frequent lecturer on labor law issues at the Michigan State University School of Labor and Industrial Relations and has authored numerous articles on construction labor law issues. Judge Borrello was also a member of the State Board of Canvassers.
