Alison E. Hirschel is the director of the Michigan Elder Justice Initiative (MEJI), a legal services and advocacy program. In addition to MEJI's legal work, it houses the Michigan Long Term Care Ombudsman Program; the MI Community, Home and Health Ombudsman Program, the Michigan Advancing Guardianship Innovations Center, and the Nursing Home Financial Transparency and Accountability Project. Ms. Hirschel speaks and writes frequently about issues affecting vulnerable older adults and people with disabilities. From 1998 to 2020, she taught elder law at the University of Michigan Law School, where she served as a public interest/public service fellow. Ms. Hirschel previously worked at Michigan Protection and Advocacy Service (now Disability Rights Michigan), Community Legal Services in Philadelphia, as a lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and as a law clerk to a federal district judge in Philadelphia.
