James M. Alexander, retired judge, Oakland County (Michigan) Circuit Court joined the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services provider in Southeast Michigan after nearly 20 years of service to the Oakland County judiciary, including a nine-year tenure on the Family Court, where he served a term as presiding judge. Judge Alexander is one of only five Oakland County jurists to have served on each of the court’s branches in his time on the bench. He was appointed to the court in 2001. He served in the Family Division through 2010 and was then assigned to the Civil/Criminal Division. Judge Alexander was also appointed as a Business Court judge when the court was created in 2013. He was formerly a presiding judge of the Family Court and a chief judge pro tem of the Circuit Court. He is a past president of the Michigan Judges Association and past chair of the State Bar Judicial Council. Judge Alexander is a life fellow of the Oakland County Bar Foundation and a fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation. Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Alexander served as a senior staff member in the John Engler administration, which he joined after a career in private practice. At the time he joined the public sector he was a shareholder at the Foster Swift firm. In 2016 “Michigan Lawyers Weekly” named Judge Alexander as one of its Leaders in the Law.
