Shanika A. Owens is an associated based in the firm's Detroit office. She focuses her practice on business, corporate, and real estate law. Ms. Owens serves on the board of the West Village Association in Detroit. During law school, she was awarded the Damon J. Keith Scholarship, a full tuition allowance, and served as president of the Black Law Students Association, was one of the few students appointed to the Dean's Diversity Task Force, and was elected to the school's Student Bar Association's Board of Governors. Ms. Owens also served as a student attorney in the Transnational Environmental Law Clinic and served on the executive board of "The Journal of Law in Society." Before law school, Ms. Owens served as a legislative assistant to several members of the Detroit City Council where she advised policymakers on several issues including economic development and matters leading up to the Detroit bankruptcy.
