Hon. Walter Shapero was appointed to the bench of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan in 1988. He holds an LL.B. from the University of Virginia Law School, where he served as a member of the editorial board of the "Virginia Law Review." After clerking for a Michigan Supreme Court Justice, Judge Shapero entered private practice with Shapero, Shapero, and Cohn, which merged to become Bromberg, Robinson, Shapero, Cohn, and Burgoyne, which thereafter became part of the firm of Butzel Long. He has been active in and has served in a number of capacities for a number of local community and national organizations, as well as the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Foundation. Judge Shapero has also taught at the University of Detroit Law School, and at Wayne State University Law School.
