Mami Kato is an experienced litigator who has successfully represented her clients in all areas of labor and employment law and other types of disputes arising out of or in connection with the employment relationship. Ms. Kato consistently secures summary judgments both in the federal and Michigan state courts as well as in arbitrations involving various federal and state law causes of action. As a passionate brief writer and an oralist, she has also achieved success on appeals brought before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the Michigan Court of Appeals. Ms. Kato utilizes her extensive litigation experience in providing advice and counsel on day-to-day complex employment law related matters, partners with employers to conduct workplace investigations, and collaborates with human resources professionals in formulating employer policies and responding to time-sensitive workplace concerns. As a former union-side labor attorney, she is also familiar with various facets of labor-management relationships and advises on matters related to collective bargaining agreements and concerns that are unique to a unionized work environment. In addition, as a native Japanese, Ms. Kato combines her familiarity with Japanese culture and her extensive knowledge of U.S. labor and employment laws to assist U.S. subsidiaries of Japanese companies.
