Jane A. Bassett

Elder Law Advisory Board Member
In private practice, Jane A. Bassett focuses on probate, elder law, and domestic partnership family issues, including estate planning, second-parent adoption, probate administration, special needs trusts, nursing home and Medicaid issues, and elder abuse and exploitation. She is a founding member and current vice-president of the Coalition for Adoption Rights Equality, Inc., a group that promotes legal recognition of parent-child relationships regardless of the gender or marital status of the parents. Ms. Bassett is a charter member of the National Family Law Advisory Committee of the National Center for Lesbian Rights and has been a speaker at national law conferences on LGBT family law. She is also a past member of the board of advisors for the Housing Bureau for Seniors connected with Turner Geriatric Clinic at the University of Michigan and a past founding board member of Cambios, Inc., a Lenawee County nonprofit organization focused on eliminating discrimination through multicultural reading programs. A graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy Law School, Ms. Bassett is herself a licensed foster parent and an adoptive parent.
