Judy B. Calton

Bloomfield Hills, Michigan


Judy B. Calton recently retired from the law firm Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn, LP, where she practiced in the areas of commercial and bankruptcy law. Ms. Calton is a former chair of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and is cochair emeritus of its Debtor/Creditor Rights Committee. She recently assisted in drafting and advocacy for the adoption of the Receivership Act by the Michigan Legislature, which amended the Uniform Commercial Real Estate Receivership Act to apply to virtually all receiverships. Ms. Calton is recognized as an expert on court rules, serving as the reporter for several rounds of amendments to local bankruptcy rules, testifying on the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Rules, and assisting in drafting MCR 2.622 on receiverships. She was elected to the American College of Bankruptcy, was recognized as a 2017 Leader in the Law by "Michigan Lawyers Weekly," shared in the Global M&A Network Turnaround Atlas Award for 2015 for the representation of the Detroit Institute of Arts in the City of Detroit bankruptcy, and received the 2012 Unsung Hero Award from the State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly. Ms. Calton is a chapter author for "Bankruptcy Litigation and Dispute Resolution 7" and "Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring Law 2008."
