Michael J. Watza

Cochairperson of his firm's Commercial Litigation and Governmental Practice Group, Michael J. Watza's practice provides litigated, legislative, and regulatory solutions on behalf of municipal, nonprofit, and private-sector clients. He has represented clients in state and federal trial courts throughout Michigan and argued on their behalf in both the Michigan and U.S. Court of Appeals. In addition, Mr. Watza has attended to regulatory matters before the Michigan Public Service Commission, Michigan Tax Tribunal, Department of Labor and Economic Growth, and the Federal Communications Commission. He has also represented his clients' interests in the Michigan Legislature and Congress through negotiation, drafting, and testimony regarding legislation on various issues, such as electric transmission line siting, telecommunications, cable, pipeline regulation, the formation of intergovernmental authorities, and tort reform. Mr. Watza also serves as general counsel to PROTEC, as a member of the Michigan Gaming Control Board, and as chairperson of the Novi Economic Development Corporation and of the State Bar of Michigan Grievance Panel #9. Designated a Michigan Super Lawyer in 2007, he has been actively involved in protecting Michigan public, educational, and government channels from unilateral digitization.
