Bryce C. Pilz is a clinical assistant professor in the Entrepreneurship Clinic at the University of Michigan Law School (UMLS). He represents emerging technology companies concerning intellectual property (IP) and corporate legal matters, including entity formation, equity compensation, early-stage financing, and IP ownership and freedom-to-operate issues. Prior to joining UMLS, Mr. Pilz practiced at Kirkland and Ellis LLP in the firm's IP practice and clerked for Hon. Amy J. St. Eve of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Most recently, he served as associate general counsel in the University of Michigan's Office of General Counsel, where he worked on IP transactional matters primarily involving software, medical devices, and engineering technologies. Mr. Pilz also counseled the university's Office of Technology Transfer on IP, licensing, and startup matters and advised the College of Engineering and Center for Entrepreneurship on student IP and startup law issues. He received his JD from UMLS in 2000 and his BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan College of Engineering in 1997. Mr. Pilz is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
