Roberta J. Morris holds a law degree from Harvard Law School and a doctorate in physics from Columbia University, in that order. She has practiced patent law, primarily litigation, in New York City at Fish & Neave (now Ropes & Gray) and in Ann Arbor at Gifford, Krass, Sprinkle, Anderson & Citkowski, P.C. Since 1991 most of her time has been spent as a law school lecturer. Until 2005 Professor Morris taught patent law and related subjects at the University of Michigan Law School. Since then she has been at Stanford Law School. Professor Morris has spoken widely on business method patents and other intellectual property subjects at meetings of the Practising Law Institute, state and local bar associations, and science and engineering groups at the University of Michigan and Stanford. Among her recent writings on patent law are an IP Today article, "Thoughts on Patent-Bashing, Obviously," which centered on KSR v. Teleflex when it was pending before the Supreme Court, and amicus briefs on her own behalf to the Federal Circuit in In re Bilski (on 35 USC 101 in general and business methods in particular) and Ariad v. Eli Lilly (on 35 USC 112 in general and written description in particular). From time to time Professor Morris also posts to two blogspot.com blogs, myunpublishedworks (for law), and myunpublishedworks2 (for everything else).
