John M. Kamins cochairs the firm's Entertainment and Sports Law Practice Group and is a member of the firm's Business and Corporate Practice Group, with an emphasis on entertainment, corporate, finance, and securities law. He counsels music, film, and other entertainment industry clients in Michigan and nationally, including with respect to intellectual property rights, the State of Michigan's film production incentives and infrastructure development tax credits, business and contractual matters, and project financings. Mr. Kamins' clients include musical artists, bands, producers and songwriters; record labels and music publishing companies; movie studios, producers, screenwriters, actors, investors, a film prop and design company, and a film crew school; managers; playwrights; authors; models; and underwriters and placement agents of governmental bonds to finance capital projects. Admitted to practice in Michigan and Florida, he is currently the chairperson of the State Bar of Michigan's Arts, Communications, Entertainment, and Sports Law Section and is a former chairperson of the Public Corporation Law Section. A graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, Mr. Kamins has also been an active leader in his community as national chairperson of the board of directors of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and an earlier president of its Michigan chapter, as well as president of Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit Foundation.
