Eric Solomon

Eric Solomon is the director of Ernst and Young LLP's National Tax Department, where he advises clients on a wide range of transactional and tax policy issues. He has more than 30 years of tax experience in private practice and government service. Mr. Solomon joined the Office of Tax Policy of the U.S. Treasury Department in 1999 and served in both the Clinton and George W. Bush administrations. He served in a variety of Treasury Department roles until December 2006, when he was confirmed as assistant secretary for tax policy, a position he held until January 2009. As assistant secretary, Mr. Solomon headed the Office of Tax Policy, which serves as the primary advisor to the Treasury Secretary on legal and economic matters relating to domestic and international taxation. In recognition of his accomplishments at the Treasury Department, he received the Alexander Hamilton Award, which is the highest award for service in the Treasury Department, and the Distinguished Presidential Rank Award. In addition, Mr. Solomon was the recipient of the Tax Council Policy Institute's first Pillar of Excellence Award for his contributions in the field of tax law and policy. He has also earned distinguished service awards from the Tax Foundation, the Tax Executives Institute, and the Taxation Sections of the Federal Bar Association and the State Bar of California, as well as an outstanding achievement award from the Taxation Section of the State Bar of Texas. Mr. Solomon is a member of the executive committee of the Tax Section of the New York State Bar Association and a fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel. He is an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center, where he teaches a course in corporate taxation.
