John Steele

A solo practitioner emphasizing legal ethics, professional liability, and risk management, John Steele served for more than 15 years as the chief internal ethics lawyer at an AmLaw 100 and an AmLaw 200 law firm. He is a certified specialist in the law of legal malpractice (Cal. St. Brd. Legal Spec.). He frequently speaks and publishes on the topic of legal ethics and for 25 semesters has taught at the University of California-Berkeley, Stanford, Indiana University, and Santa Clara University School of Law. Mr. Steele is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation; a member of the State Bar of California's Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct; a member of the American Bar Association (ABA) Center for Professional Responsibility; and a member of the William A. Ingram American Inn of Court. He has served as cochair of the Professional Responsibility Committee of the ABA's Section of Intellectual Property Law; a member of the Bar Association of the San Francisco Ethics Committee; chair of the Santa Clara County Bar Association (SCCBA) Professionalism Committee; and a member of the executive committee of the SCCBA Committee on Fee Arbitration.
