Partnership FAQs

Terms

  1. Do I have to be a lawyer to join?
Yes, you must be an active member of the State Bar of Michigan or a law firm to join the ICLE Partnership.
  2. How long does my subscription last?
Annual payment option. If you choose annual payment, your subscription lasts 12 months, and you will receive a renewal notice before the end of the year for your next year's subscription.
Monthly payment option. If you select monthly payment, you must pay by credit card and you are committed to pay for the first 12 months. After the initial 12 months, we will continue to charge your credit card each month unless you cancel your subscription in writing before the 10th day of the month. We will notify you if the price or benefits change. You will not receive a renewal notice.
  3. How do we know which firm size category we are?
Include all lawyers associated with the law firm, including employees and contract lawyers who spend a significant amount of time on the firm's clients' matters or will have access to the firm's computer resources. You must also count law school graduates who will take or have taken the Michigan Bar exam but not law students or summer associates.
  4. Do we need to pay for the entire Partnership year when we sign up?
No. If you authorize us to charge your credit card each month, you can pay in equal monthly installments. However, if you elect to pay monthly, you are committed to pay for the first 12 months. After the initial 12 months, we will continue to charge your credit card each month unless you cancel your subscription in writing before the 10th day of the month. We will notify you if the price or benefits change. The annual fee is slightly higher if paid monthly, and you must pay by credit card.
  5. May I cancel at any time?
Whether you choose annual payment or monthly payment, you commit to 12 months of service. Your access to the Partnership remains good for the entire year of your subscription. You may cancel but there are no refunds. If you elect the monthly payment option, after the initial 12 months we will continue to charge your credit card each month unless you cancel your subscription in writing before the 10th day of the month. We will notify you if the price or benefits change. You will not receive a renewal notice.
  6. How do I subscribe?

Online Resources

  1. How am I allowed to use the online resources?
    • We'll issue each lawyer and the legal assistants in your firm an ICLE username and password to access all your resources at www.icle.org. An assigned username and password may be used only by that lawyer or legal assistant and only while employed by the firm.
    • You may use your Partnership online resources for purposes of your law practice or legal study. You may also create printouts of reasonable portions of the online resources for internal use and download and adapt selected forms or jury instructions for use in client matters. You may not share, copy, distribute, display, reuse, or resell the online resources in the Partnership.
  2. What equipment and software are needed for using the online resources?
To get the best use of the Partnership, we recommend the following equipment:
    • Computer. At a minimum either a PC running Windows Vista or higher or an Apple computer. The ICLE website is also accessible on most mobile devices.
    • Internet access. A high-speed connection (like cable or DSL) with a recommended browser and an e-mail account.
    • Word processing software. The drafted forms are compatible with Microsoft Word for Windows (version 97 or higher) or Word for Macintosh. They can also be used with any other word processing program that can read or convert Word files.
    • Adobe Reader. To view and print the SCAO approved forms and seminar materials, you must have a copy of Adobe Reader, a free software program.
  3. Can I fill out the forms that are included in the online resources?
Yes. Drafted forms can be edited in your word processing program. SCAO-approved forms can be filled out in Adobe Reader.

Questions About Solo Partnerships

  1. Who can buy a Solo Partnership?
You are a solo practitioner only if you practice by yourself in a one-lawyer office or, if you share office space with other nonassociated lawyers, you do not share a computer system, software, or access with those lawyers or their staffs. We've been able to price the Solo Partnership affordably because the benefits won't be shared.
  2. Can my paralegal attend seminars?
If you have a Solo Premium Partnership, either you or your paralegal may attend live Partnership seminars—but only one of you may attend a particular location. The other may attend the same seminar on another date or at another location if one is offered, watch the seminar on the website under On-Demand Seminars when it is available (within three weeks of the live seminar), or pay the general fee.

Questions About Firm Partnerships

  1. How many lawyers or paralegals from our firm may attend a particular seminar?
If you have a Premium Partnership, the number who may attend a live Partnership seminar depends on the size of your firm.
    • If you are a 2–4 lawyer firm, you may send 2 lawyers or paralegals to each seminar presentation at a single location.
    • If your firm has 5–10 lawyers, you may send 3 to each location.
    • If your firm has 11 or more lawyers, you may send 5 to each location.
Additional lawyers or paralegals may attend the same seminar on another date or at another location if one is offered, watch the seminar on the website under On-Demand Seminars when it is available (within three weeks of the live seminar), or pay the general fee.
  2. What if one of our lawyers leaves, or we hire someone new?
You must promptly tell us that the lawyer left, so that we can cancel his or her Partnership access. If you hire a new lawyer, let us know his or her name and P number, so that we can issue access to the Partnership.
  3. Does each lawyer in the firm receive the Weekly Law and Practice Update e-mails?
We send Weekly Law and Practice Update e-mails to the firm's contact person (designated when your firm joins the ICLE Partnership) and all firm lawyers for whom we have e-mail addresses.
