Howard S. Sher

Southfield, Michigan

An original member of the firm and its current vice president, Howard S. Sher heads the firm's bankruptcy and creditors' rights practice. For over 30 years, he has practiced not only in the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan but also in various out-of-state bankruptcy matters. Mr. Sher has represented every type of client before the bankruptcy courts, including individual creditors, parties who have been sued for preferences and fraudulent transfers, parties who have purchased assets, secured lenders, unsecured creditors' committees, and Chapter 11 debtors. In addition, he regularly represents a number of Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustees and often works as bankruptcy cocounsel with other attorneys who do not specialize in bankruptcy matters. In recognition of his bankruptcy expertise and knowledge of the law, Mr. Sher serves on the mediation panel of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, a position he has held since the creation of the mediation panel in 1998. While a large part of his practice is concentrated in the bankruptcy and creditors' rights field, he also devotes a meaningful part of his practice to litigation in the federal and state courts in Michigan and has successfully tried matters in arbitration proceedings.
