Michelle Antoinette Busuito is an assistant general counsel with the health system. Ms. Busuito is responsible for all data privacy issues, including HIPAA, as well as the intellectual property portfolio, which encompasses trademarks and branding. In addition to her work at BCBSM, she teaches business law courses at both an undergraduate and graduate level for the University of Detroit Mercy College of Business Administration and Wayne State University Mike Illitch School of Business. Prior to joining BCBSM, Ms. Busuito was a lawyer at Schiff Hardin LLP, where she provided legal advice on future mobility technologies to Ford Motor Company and Ford Smart Mobility. She is active with the Michigan Women’s Foundation where she led an effort to test and process a backing of rape kits in Detroit; in 2015 she was recognized for this work as the “DBusiness” In-House Counsel of the Year for Pro Bono. Ms. Busuito continues her focus on pro bono efforts, working to establish the first in-house pro bono program for BCBSM’s Office of General Counsel. Ms. Busuito is also a recipient of the “DBusiness” 40 Under 40 award, recognizing her leadership in data privacy.
