Sidney McBride has served as Bureau Director since February, 2020. Mr. McBride joined the MERC staff in 2009 and has held various positions including Election Officer, Administrative Law Specialist, Labor Mediator, and Mediation Director. He has been directly involved in key functions such as drafting MERC decisions, conducting representation elections, overseeing the agency’s Act 312 and Fact-Finding programs, spearheading special projects, training initiatives, rule-making projects, and the MERC eFile system. Mr. McBride is a proponent of the agency’s advancing use technology as evidenced by virtual mediation and training processes; voluntary mediation of ULP and election cases; e-signatures on show of interest documents and live stream viewing of Factfinding and Act 312 hearings and monthly Commission meetings. Prior to MERC, he worked at Michigan’s largest circuit court in management and labor roles where he was involved in collective bargaining, grievance and arbitration matters, and MERC proceedings. Mr. McBride is an active board member the Detroit LERA Chapter and the (International) Association of Labor Relations Agencies (ALRA). He is a licensed attorney and member of the State Bar of Michigan’s Labor and Employment Law Section.
