James K. Benison

James K. Benison is the chief appellate lawyer for the Kent County Prosecutor's Office. After graduating from the University of Chicago Law School, he clerked for the Honorable Charles L. Levin with the Michigan Supreme Court and then joined Kent County in 1997 as a trial attorney. Mr. Benison was given the 2005 Outstanding Advocate Award by the Crime Victim Foundation and in 2009 received a national criminal justice prosecution award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving. He was the lead traffic safety attorney for the county until he was selected to head the appellate division in February 2015. Mr. Benison has presented at trainings for the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan, local law enforcement agencies, the Michigan Appellate Bench Bar Conference Foundation, and various other local and state entities.
