Joseph A. Starr concentrates his practice on management-side labor and employment law and specializes in the defense of employment practices liability claims. He leads the firm's employment practices defense group. Mr. Starr regularly appears before federal and state courts and administrative agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, and the National Labor Relations Board. He also regularly counsels and trains clients regarding such issues as workplace violence, harassment policies, electronic privacy policies, unemployment claims, Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigations, and Department of Labor wage-and-hour disputes. Mr. Starr is a former council member of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan (2007-2011). He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Oakland County Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, the Council on Litigation Management, and the Professional Liability Underwriting Society.
