Paul A. McCarthy is a commercial trial lawyer who litigates the value of privately held business. His concentration on litigating business valuation disputes covers a broad spectrum, including divorce actions, shareholder/member disputes, post-acquisition disputes, oppression actions, dissenter's rights/appraisal actions, freeze-out mergers, officer and director liability actions, and tax controversies. After litigating various cases involving shareholder rights, Mr. McCarthy undertook concentrated coursework and study in business valuation from the Institute of Business Appraisers. He has tried numerous business valuation cases to verdict in various trial courts in Michigan and in private arbitration. A highlight of his career was a month-long jury trial on behalf of plaintiff shareholders that yielded the largest reported verdict in Michigan in 2010. Mr. McCarthy has been designated a Michigan Super Lawyer, included in "The Best Lawyers in America," inducted into the International Society of Barristers, and named a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. He earned both his JD and MBA degrees from Marquette University.
