Thomas P. Boyd became Michigan’s State Court Administrator on March 23, 2020. Prior to this role, he served as judge in the 55th District Court. He served on the Governor’s Indigent Defense Advisory Commission and was appointed by the governor to the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission in June, 2014, serving until leaving the bench in 2020. He served as the chair of the legislatively created Michigan Trial Court Funding Commission, which was tasked with review and recommendations concerning the method of funding Michigan’s trial courts. He has also been an active member served the Michigan District Judges Association (MDJA) in various positions, including president from June 2016 to December 31, 2017. He was the 2019 Judicial Excellence award recipient from the MDJA, a 2020 State Bar of Michigan Champion of Justice Award recipient, and the 2021 Advocate of the Year honoree by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) – Michigan.
