Mark Rieth purchased the brewery outright in 2005, after becoming an investor in 2002. He focuses the business—which also includes Atwater in the Park in Grosse Pointe Park and Atwater Grand Rapids—on traditional German-style lagers, along with unique boutique ales. In 2014 the brewery produced approximately 40,000 barrels, making it the third-largest producer in the state. A metro Detroit native, Mr. Rieth previously worked for Toyota Motor Corporation in both California and Massachusetts, as well as Mitsubishi in Arizona. He returned to Michigan in 1997, after which he started the automotive sales and marketing company Pinnacle Automotive.
