Lisa Panah is a principal in the Kitch firm's health care corporate practice group. With more than 10 years of experience, she focuses her practice on advising hospitals and other providers on health care regulatory, transactional, corporate, and compliance matters. Her experience includes structuring transactions to conform with fraud and abuse, physician self-referral, and tax exemption laws; establishing hospital-physician joint ventures; advising on physician recruitment arrangements; structuring corporate reorganizations and affiliations; forming nonprofit organizations; and obtaining recognition of tax-exempt status from the IRS for nonprofit clients. Ms. Panah is active in several professional organizations, currently serving as the chairperson of the State Bar of Michigan's Health Care Law Section (HCLS). She formerly served as secretary of the HCLS Council and cochairperson of the HCLS's Providers Substantive Law Subcommittee. In 2006, she led creation of a Health Law Index, a resource for individuals and organizations interested in Michigan health law issues, which is posted on the HCLS website. A former board member of the Michigan Society of Healthcare Attorneys, Ms. Panah is also a member of the American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, and American Health Lawyers Association. She gives presentations and authors articles on health law-related issues. A graduate of Wayne State University Law School, Ms. Panah also received an L.L.M. in health law from DePaul University College of Law.
