Hon. Susan Bieke Neilson was appointed to the Wayne County Circuit Court bench in 1991 and was reelected three times. Prior to her appointment, She was a partner at Dickinson Wright PLLC, where she specialized in products liability and medical malpractice claims and commercial litigation. A frequent writer and lecturer for ICLE, Judge Neilson was a member of ICLE's Litigation Advisory Board. In 2002, President George W. Bush nominated Judge Neilson to the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Her appointment was confirmed by the Senate in late 2005 by a vote of 97-0. Judge Neilson was sworn in as a judge of the Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit Court in November 2005, just two months before her untimely death on January 25, 2006.
