Theodore J. St. Antoine

Theodore J. St. Antoine practices in the areas of labor and employment law and labor arbitration. He is the James E. & Sarah A. Degan Professor Emeritus of Law at the University of Michigan. A graduate of Fordham College and the University of Michigan Law School, Prof. St. Antoine did postgraduate work in law and economics at the London School of Economics on a Fulbright grant and then practiced labor law with Woll, Mayer & St. Antoine in Washington, DC. He joined the Michigan law faculty in 1965 and was Dean from 1971 to 1978. He is a past secretary and council member of the American Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section, a past chair of the State Bar of Michigan's Labor Relations Law Section, and was recently chair of the Michigan Attorney Discipline Board. Prof. St. Antoine was a member of the UAW's Public Review Board 1973-2008 and its chairperson 2000-2008. Since 1984, he has been a member of the U.S. Executive Board of the International Society for Labor and Social Security Law. President of the National Academy of Arbitrators 1999-2000, Prof. St. Antoine is now a member of the executive committee of the board of directors of the American Arbitration Association. He was a reporter for the Uniform Law Commissioners from 1987 to 1992 and has been a visiting professor at Cambridge, Duke, George Washington, and Tokyo Universities. Prof. St. Antoine is coeditor of "Labor Relations Law: Cases and Materials," now in its 11th edition, and editor of "The Common Law of the Workplace: The Views of Arbitrators."
