George S. Isaacson is a senior partner in the firm, which is counsel to over 100 electronic merchants and catalog companies throughout the United States in connection with state and local tax matters. He represented the respondents, Wayfair, Overstock.com, and Newegg, in the U.S. Supreme Court case that was brought by South Dakota and resulted in the court abandoning its long-standing commerce clause “physical presence” requirement for imposing sales and use tax collection obligations on remote sellers. He is tax counsel to the Data and Marketing Association and successfully represented the DMA before the U.S. Supreme Court in "DMA v Brohl," decided in 2015. He is also counsel to the American Catalog Mailers Association and NetChoice. Mr. Isaacson was named by “State Tax Notes” as one of the “top 10 individuals who influenced tax policy and practices” in 2011 and 2013 and as “Person of the Year” for 2016. He is also on the advisory board and author of a quarterly column entitled “Eyes on e-Commerce.” Mr. Isaacson teaches courses on constitutional law at Bowdoin College and speaks frequently before business groups and trade associations regarding taxation of interstate transactions and electronic commerce.
