Lynn Perry Wooten, Ph.D.

Lynn Perry Wooten, Ph.D., is a clinical associate professor of strategy, management, and organizations and co-directs the Center for Positive Organizational Scholarship and the Executive Leadership Institute. She teaches corporate strategy, human resource management, leadership, and organization behavioral courses. She earned her MBA from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and her PhD from the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business, joining its faculty in 1998. Prof. Wooten's research focuses on how organizations use human resource management (HRM) policies to attain a competitive advantage. In addition, she studies crisis leadership, positive organizing routines, and the effectiveness of diversity programs in organizations. Funded by the National Institutes of Health, Sloan Foundation, and the Society for Human Resource Management, Prof. Wooten's research on executive development and diversity won awards from the Academy of Management and the consulting firm McKinsey and Company, and "The Financial Times" chose her as a "Next Generation Business Thinker in Human Resource Management." In addition to her research and teaching responsibilities at the Ross School of Business, Prof. Wooten served on the Work/Life Executive Board of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and currently serves on the state of Michigan's Next Great Company Task Force. Her service within the University of Michigan includes serving on the Human Resource Management Advisory Board, the Community Value Committee, and the steering committee of the National Center for Institutional Diversity. Prof. Wooten's work has been published in such prestigious academic journals as the "Academy of Management Journal," "Advances in Human Resource Development," "American Behavioral Scientist," and "Sex Roles" and has been featured in newspapers and industry trade journals and on radio programs. She has also written book chapters, teaching materials, and monographs on workforce diversity, board diversity, crisis leadership, and positive organizing practices. Prof. Wooten is an associate editor of "Human Resource Management" journal and a consulting editor for the "Journal of Business and Education." She consults in the areas of strategic HRM, positive organizing practices, and workforce diversity with both profit and not-for-profit organizations.
