Vincent A. Wellman was an associate professor of law at Wayne State University Law School and taught courses in contracts, criminal law, jurisprudence, and legal process. Prior to law school, he spent two years at the University of Michigan pursuing graduate studies in philosophy. Professor Wellman received his JD from Yale Law School, where he was a director of the Yale Legislative Service. He then clerked for Judge Robert L. Carter of the U. S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Professor Wellman taught at Wayne State from 1981 until he retired in 2025 and wrote on topics in the philosophy of law (including questions of legal reasoning and the authority of law) and on contracts and sales under Article 2 of the UCC. Most recently he taught contract drafting and wrote on the challenges of drafting contracts. He also completed SCAO-approved 40-hour mediation training. He died May 27, 2025.
