Richard C. Mills practices in the areas of estate planning, trust and estate administration, and charitable giving. He has been involved in the drafting of all major Michigan trust legislation since the enactment of the Michigan Trust Code, including Michigan's trust decanting, domestic asset protection, and divided and directed trusteeship laws. In 2020 Mr. Mills was invited to present to the Michigan House of Representatives Committee on Families, Children, and Seniors. At the federal level he served on an American Bar Association work group that made recommendations to the Department of Treasury on proposed donor-advised fund regulations. He also served as an observer to the Uniform Law Commission's Fundraising Through Public Appeals Act Drafting Committee. Mr. Mills is an officer of the Probate and Estate Planning Council of the State Bar of Michigan and is an associate editor of the “Michigan Probate and Estate Planning Journal.” He also serves on the Probate Council’s unitrust and private trust company drafting committees. He also chairs the ABA’s Real Property Trust and Estate (RPTE) Law Section’s Charitable Planning and Organizations Group. He has been named a Michigan Super Lawyer in estate planning and probate since 2020 and was previously named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers from 2013 to 2019.
