Before his current position as an associate at the firm's Lansing office, Paul Mooney served as a law clerk for the firm during law school, primarily providing research for the firm's cannabis practice. Mr. Mooney began his law career as an assistant tribal attorney with the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community (KBIC), a federally recognized Indian tribe that is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. His service provided KBIC with in-house counsel duties to the tribe, primarily advising the tribe's commercial enterprises. Mr. Mooney also served as an associate general counsel with the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan. While in law school, he received a certificate in Indigenous Law from the Indigenous Law and Policy Center, participated in the Indian Law Clinic, interned with the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, and was an associate editor of the "Michigan State Law Review." Mr. Mooney also externed for a semester in Washington D.C., with the National Indian Gaming Commission.
