John A. Shea has been in private practice since 1988 and focuses primarily on criminal defense. He also represents clients in commercial and real estate litigation, professional malpractice defense, and in proceedings before the Attorney Discipline Board and other disciplinary agencies. He has appeared before courts and tribunals throughout Michigan, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and U.S. District Courts in the Eastern District of Michigan, Northern District of Illinois, and Southern District of Indiana. He is a past-chairperson of the Prisons & Corrections Council of the State Bar of Michigan; a member of the Washtenaw County, Illinois State, and American Bar Associations; a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; co-chairperson of the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan Rules & Laws Committee; past-president of the Criminal Defense Lawyers of Washtenaw County; and a member of the ACLU of Michigan. He also is a Fellow of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers and the Michigan State Bar Foundation.
