James P. Ryan

James P. Ryan practices in the areas of domestic relations and estate planning. He is a member of the Family Law, Master Lawyers, and Probate and Estate Planning Sections of the State Bar of Michigan. Mr. Ryan is a former chairperson of the Family Law Section and has presented many times on the section's behalf. He cochaired the Family Law Section's Codification Committee, which produced a 164-page proposed "Michigan Domestic Relations Code." Mr. Ryan was also active with the State Bar of Michigan's Plain English Committee and the Michigan Law-Related Education Project, for which he coauthored the family law chapter of "Guide to Practical Law in Michigan." For three years, he assisted the Legislative Service Bureau in preparing numerous revisions to the original spouse abuse statutes. Mr. Ryan also served four years on the SCAO's Circuit Court Forms Committee and on its Friend of the Court Forms Committee, where he was the principal drafter for the Divorce Forms Subcommittee. He has had many articles published in "Michigan Family Law Journal" and has written and presented many times for ICLE.
