John F. Mills specialized in the areas of domestic relations, divorce mediation and arbitration, private adoptions, and related matters, including adoption litigation. A fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, he was an active member of the State Bar of Michigan, a former delegate to its Representative Assembly, a former chairperson of the Family Law Section, and a former chairperson of the section's Adoption Law Committee. Mr. Mills was also a member of the Oakland County Bar Association, a past president of the Oakland University Alumni Association, and a past president of the Oakland University Foundation. He lectured extensively at seminars and had been a guest lecturer on private adoption and adoption-related issues at Michigan State University College of Law, University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, Cooley Law School, and ICLE. Mr. Mills authored several articles on adoption issues. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a Vietnam War veteran. He died July 26, 2014.
