Karl W. Schettenhelm Jr. practices in the areas of estate planning, business planning, executive compensation, taxation, and charitable foundations, specializing in qualified and nonqualified employee benefit plan issues. He has led special projects dealing with current and deferred compensation with profit businesses, tax-exempt organizations, and trusts and was part of the litigation team that created one of the largest endowed charitable organizations in Michigan. Mr. Schettenhelm has served as an adjunct faculty member in Walsh College's Masters in Taxation Program and as an instructor in a program cosponsored by the University of Michigan and Wayne State University leading to a certified employee benefit specialist designation. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the American, Oakland County, and Federal Bar Associations, and the National Council on Planned Giving. A frequent author on topics such as executive compensation and foundations, Mr. Schettenhelm led programs in 2010 and 2011 for the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants and the Northeastern Michigan Estate Planning Council on the new Michigan Trust Code and its application to business succession. For many years, he has been actively engaged in planned giving campaigns for the University of Michigan and Walsh College.
