Jon R. Muth spent most of his career in civil/commercial litigation but then devoted increasing time to mediation and arbitration. He served as an arbitrator in proceedings conducted by the National Futures Association, the American Arbitration Association, and the National Arbitration Forum. Mr. Muth was a facilitative mediator certified by the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan and the Michigan state courts. Very active in professional organizations, he served as president of the State Bar of Michigan and held numerous other offices and committee chair positions with the local, state, and national bar associations. Mr. Muth served in the American Bar Association (ABA) House of Delegates and was a fellow of the ABA Foundation, the International Society of Barristers, the Michigan State Bar Foundation (where he served as a trustee), and the West Michigan Justice Foundation. He was a founder of the Kent County Legal Assistance Center and served on its board. Mr. Muth received the Roberts P. Hudson Award from the State Bar and the President's Award from the Grand Rapids Bar Association. Superlawyers Magazine in 2007, 2008, and 2009 named him one of the top 10 lawyers in Michigan. He died January 29, 2021.
