Hon. James C. Kingsley served as chief judge 1984-1993 and also served on the Court of Appeals by assignment. Judge Kingsley was elected to the Judicial Tenure Commission by his fellow Circuit Judges in 2000 and served as chair 2005-2006. He has previously served on the executive committee of the Michigan Judges Association from 1986-2004 and was president in 1996. Elected to the executive committee of the Judicial Conference of the State Bar of Michigan, Judge Kingsley was chairperson in 1996. He was a Michigan Supreme Court appointee to the Task Force on Gender Bias in the Courts and to the Representative Assembly of the State Bar of Michigan. A fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation, Judge Kingsley has served as a lecturer and program consultant for the Michigan Judicial Institute and as a lecturer at Albion College. At the invitation of the American Bar Association and the Thai judiciary, he has also served as a guest speaker at national conferences in Bangkok, Thailand, on judicial responsibilities and ethics issues.
