Hugh W. Brenneman, Jr. has served as a magistrate judge for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan since 1980. He has also served as a captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps and as an assistant U.S. attorney and was in private practice from 1977 to 1980. Judge Brenneman is a cofounder and past president of the Western Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. He is also a cofounder, master of the bench, and past president of the Grand Rapids Chapter of the American Inns of Court. A fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation, Judge Brenneman served in the State Bar of Michigan's Representative Assembly from 1984 to 1990. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the Federal Magistrate Judges Association's Committee on Federal Rules. Judge Brenneman has been an adjunct instructor and a moot court competition judge.
