John Reiser has been an assistant prosecutor for Washtenaw County since 1999 and was an assistant prosecutor for Oakland County from 1996 to 1999. He is currently assigned to the 14-1 District Court. A graduate of the Detroit College of Law, Mr. Reiser has lectured on criminal law and procedure at Wayne State University and the Oakland and Washtenaw Community College Police Academies and regularly conducts training for local police departments. He is the past president of the Washtenaw County Bar Association (WCBA), a former co-chairperson of its Criminal Law Section, and editor of the WCBA’s newsletter, "Res Ipsa Loquitur." Mr. Reiser has written articles for publications of the WCBA and the Criminal Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan, where he has served on the Representative Assembly for the past several years. He has participated on medical marijuana panels for WCBA and "Metro Times" in Detroit and has written on the topic for the local bar association and the Michigan Association of Planners. As chairperson of the Ypsilanti Township Planning Commission, Mr. Reiser had a role in the adoption of a zoning ordinance addressing the cultivation and use of medical marijuana. He is also a member of the Traffic Safety Forum of the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan and has conducted drunk driving training for them.
