Retrieving a downloaded file
WordPerfect 7/8/9/10/11/12/X3
- Load WordPerfect.
- Pull down the File menu and select Open.
- Click on the arrow next to the "Look in" window and choose
the drive (probably the C drive) to which you downloaded the
file (or installed the file from a disk).
- Double click on the folder in which you downloaded the file
or installed the disk.
- Click on the name of the file you wish to retrieve and click
on Open.
- Save the document under a new name.
Editing a file
You can edit the file just as you would any other
word processing document.
If you are editing a downloaded drafted form from the ICLE
Partnership or a drafted form from an ICLE disk product, you must decide
whether to change the wording to meet your client's needs and whether to add
any information that does not appear in the form. In addition, there are places
within the text that must be edited - for example, where you must choose the
correct gender pronoun or insert a name. Any text that must be edited is signaled
by blank lines or by instructions or multiple choices set forth in boldface
type within square brackets.
NOTE: Be sure to read each
form very carefully to adapt the language to your client's needs.
Boldface type in square brackets:
Boldface type set in square brackets contains editing instructions and multiple
choices, such as "[his / her]" and "[I / we]." This type also indicates
optional phrases and paragraphs. To find the multiple choices and optional
text and
to edit them, you can search for the boldface square brackets.
To search for optional text:
- Select Edit, Find
and Replace.
- Type [ (an opening square bracket) in the "Find" window.
- Click on Find Next button.
- When a square bracket has been found, click Close to
edit the optional text.
- To search for the next instance of optional text, select Edit, Find
and Replace. The square bracket will still be in the "Find" window,
so click Find Next.
- Repeat this process until you have finished editing the file.
- Save under a new name.
Blank lines:
Some forms contain blank lines where information (such as dates; notary signatures;
and names, addresses, and signatures of witnesses) must be supplied. This
information is often typed or written on the printed form. You can either
print the file with the lines or delete the lines and type in the information
before printing.
Saving a form
As you are working, it is a good idea to save your
document periodically.
To save an edited file:
WordPerfect 7/8/9/10/11/12/X3:
Choose File, Save As. Type in the new file name in the "File
name" (and change the path (folder) location, if appropriate) and click
on Save.
Printing a form
Print just as you would any other WordPerfect document:
To print the document on the screen, choose File and Print.
