D. Andrew Portinga practices in the area of litigation, particularly general commercial litigation, insurance coverage litigation, ERISA litigation, appellate litigation, and products liability defense. Practicing law since 1996, he has extensive experience in both federal and state courts, representing both Fortune 500 companies and family-owned businesses in complex cases involving myriad issues. Mr. Portinga is an active member of the Defense Research Institute's Life, Health, and Disability Committee and is a contributor to the committee's newsletter. A member of the State Bar of Michigan, he served on its Board of Commissioners from 2002 to 2005 and chaired the Young Lawyers Section and the United States Courts Committee. Mr. Portinga has served as the president of the Federal Bar Association for the Western District of Michigan. He has written a number of articles and lectures on powerful legal writing.
