Rebecca E. Shiemke was a managing attorney with the Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP) until her retirement in 2022. At MAP, she managed the Family Law Project in Washtenaw County, an office that represents and advises low-income domestic violence survivors in family law matters. She was also the family law specialist at the Michigan Poverty Law Program, a statewide program that provides advocacy as well as consultation and training to legal services attorneys and poverty law advocates. In 2022, Ms. Shiemke was appointed by Governor Whitmer to serve on the Michigan Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment Board. She is a past chair of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan (SBM) and former cochair of the section's Domestic Violence Committee. She remains a member of the Amicus Committee. Ms. Shiemke has been a presenter for ICLE, the Michigan Judicial Institute, and the SBM and has published several articles in the "Michigan Family Law Journal" and the "Michigan Bar Journal." In 2011, Ms. Shiemke was honored to receive one of the SBM's Champion of Justice Awards.
