Before her appointment to the bench in 2021, Hon. Lisa S. Gretchko practiced at Howard & Howard, concentrating in creditors' rights and commercial litigation. She has represented nearly every constituency in bankruptcy courts around the country, has litigated many of the issues that arise in the context of bankruptcy law, and has experience in real estate litigation. Judge Gretchko is very active in the American Bankruptcy Institute and currently serves as its vice president--publications and is a member of its executive committee. She previously served as an executive editor of its monthly publication, the "ABI Journal," cochair of its Unsecured Trade Creditors Committee (2013-2015), and was awarded Committee Member of the Year in 2014 for that service. From 2001 to 2003, Judge Gretchko taught bankruptcy law and creditors' rights as an adjunct professor at Wayne State University Law School. She is also a former council member and secretary of the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan, former chair of the Oakland County Bar Association Creditors' Rights Committee, former member of the Advisory Committee of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and a former member of ICLE's Business Law Advisory Board. Judge Gretchko has earned numerous accolades, including Super Lawyer and Best Lawyer designations in her field. She has written and lectured extensively for various organizations on a variety of creditors' rights issues.
